This Is What All Kids Need To Thrive

If you want to be the best parent that you can be, you need to ensure you’re providing your child with everything they need to thrive. Your child needs more than amazing toys and a roof over their head to grow into well rounded adults that can handle their emotional highs and lows.

Read on to make sure you’re providing your child everything they need to thrive:

Praise – Done Properly

Praise is essential for any child, but it needs to be done the right way. Yes, there’s a right way to do praise, and there’s a way that it can stunt them in the future. Whether your child is building a Lego rocket or painting a picture, if you constantly shower them with compliments like ‘you’re amazing!’ and ‘you’re so talented!’ you could be hindering them. These children will often become perfectionists who can’t try new things through fear of failure due to not being ‘naturally’ good at it. If something doesn’t come easy to these children (and even once they are adults), they will give up.

When you praise your child’s effort, rather than their result, you’ll make the biggest difference to their confidence and future results. Compliments like, ‘you worked so hard on that, and you’re improving every day’ and ‘it’s great to see you really enjoying yourself when you paint’ are far better types of praise to give.

Boundaries

If your child knows that you don’t have any solid boundaries, they won’t have the security they need to be happy and healthy. If they know they can push you until you change your mind, you’ll get unbelievably stressed out, and they won’t have the parental figure that they need. Kids will naturally try to push your boundaries, and will complain, and throw tantrums, but psychologically, they all need boundaries and the security they provide.

Self Awareness

Help your child to develop self awareness. Ask them questions that they don’t have to answer with ‘yes’ or ‘no’. If they ask you how you think they look, ask them what they think. Teach them that what they think matters, and they won’t search outside of themselves for validation.

Healthy Meals

Cook healthy meals for your kids. Give them fruit and vegetables and a varied diet. Better yet, eat at least one meal a day together and you’ll reap so many benefits. Don’t let your child eat in front of the TV.

Emotional and Physical Support

Every child needs emotional and physical support. They need to know that you are going to be there to love them unconditionally and listen to them. They also need a trustworthy healthcare provider like www.healingcarepedstx.com to help them grow and thrive in the healthiest way possible.

Positive Role Models

You can tell your child not to do something until you’re blue in the face, but if you’re doing it yourself, they aren’t going to listen. Demonstrate the behaviour you want to see in your child.

Consistency

Finally, be consistent. Don’t say you’re going to do something if you’re not really going to do it. Don’t provide emotional support one minute and then take it away.
